JOSÉ L. UCHA

With 20 years in the animation industry, I was born in Cádiz, a beautiful, ancient city in the South of Spain. For millennia, Cádiz has been a melting pot for Phoenicians, Greeks, Romans, Arabs, Americans, and beyond. This dynamic heritage is likely embedded in my DNA, fueling a nomadic spirit that has led me to live and work in inspiring creative hubs like Barcelona, Seoul, and Dublin.

On this path, I have been fortunate to collaborate with world-class artists and international studios such as Disney, Cartoon Network, Aardman, DreamWorks, and Paramount. My experience spans a diverse range of styles and audiences, encompassing both the creation of original IPs and the adaptation of books, toys, and video games.

This global journey has crystallized into stories that have resonated with over 250 million viewers worldwide. My work has earned industry and audience recognition — including Bernard (Best Animation at Anima Mundi, Annecy Finalist), Canimals and The Secret Life of Suckers (Best Series by the Kids’ Jury at MIPCOM Cannes), and my first feature film — My Little Pony: A New Generation, which became Netflix’s #1 Global film in 2021 for a month and ranked among the Top 25 Global Netflix films of that year.

Currently, I am honing my craft by directing commercials, developing new bibles and pilots, and working on my first graphic novel. When not creating, I like wandering through hidden passages of cities, experimenting in the kitchen, and crafting animated loops with my family. Always looking for the next connection to create something extraordinary.
